On 9th September 2012, the 73rd Anniversary of Martyr Ven. U Ottama day was held at the Arakan Human Rights and Development Organisation’s office in Mae Sot, Thailand.
Around forty people were present at the celebrations including, U Moe Grow (President of JACBA-Burma), Daw Hla Thein (Director of ALD branch), and Arakanese women and men.
The celebration begun with a minute’s silence at 9am to pay homage to Martyr Ven. Oo Ottama. Celebrations were then preceded by Marm Khant (director of research and document department of AHRDO) who read the formal letter which was sent on behalf of AHRDO. Soe Marm (AHRDO) gave a speech to explain the aim of holding celebration.
Daw Hla Thein then gave a talk about youths’ condition in Mae Sot, and U Moe Grow and U Maung Gree also talked about Ven. U Ottama’s life story. After giving the speeches, participants started discussing their views on the current situation of Arakan, Burma. At 10:20 am, the celebration was closed by Marm Zun’s (AHRDO) final speech of gratitude for everyone’s attendance.
